Chapter Two

About Us

The Word Process is a partnership of two published novelists and veteran journalists. We - Linda Cashdan and Molly McKitterick - met working together as economic reporters. We discovered we were each, independently, beginning to write fiction and attended a local “fiction writers’ workshop” together. What we found were people who wanted to talk about writing rather than write.

The two of us began exchanging chapters and critiquing each other’s work. (Our first lesson was that this could be a painful process: Many times we thanked each other profusely for “the help” and then cried all the way home in the car.)

We each got very good at manuscript editing (figuring out what worked and what did not work) and book doctoring (fixing the manuscript to make it better) .
